GUIDELINES

  001.   This blog is multiship and multiverse! Unless otherwise agreed upon or planned out by all involved parties, every serious thread and interaction with me is separate from any others on here. (Obviously this doesn’t include silly or little things like crack or Dashboard commentary RPs, if applicable.)  002.   I am all for violent threads. I will admit that I haven’t done fight/combat threads in over a decade at this point, but I’m not adverse to doing it, so long as we plan out what’s going to happen. You’re also free to hurt, maim, torture, etc., my muse, just let me know it’s a thing beforehand so I can get in the groove with you. When it comes to killing him, that one is definitely a, “Let’s discuss it in-depth first” case. The main thing I ask is that you don’t take control of my character.  003.   Shipping is never a guarantee, first and foremost. Our muses need to have chemistry between them, or to develop chemistry between them. While having talked OOCly isn’t a requirement, I do ask for communication if there’s a problem, something you want to change, something you aren’t vibing with, if you want to drop the ship, so on. Trust me, I’m not gonna get mad at you for it! Try to be upfront with me, and of course I’ll strive to be upfront with you as well!
Don’t worry about ships needing to be happy or perfect, though. I’m happy to do any kind of ships, even incredibly dark ones.
  004.   I try to be a bit more lenient with fellow RPers and their ages, within reason of course. But I would prefer to only RP with people who are 21+.
There will be absolutely No Shipping With Minors. If you’re a minor OOC, or if your muse is a minor ICly, shipping will absolutely not happen under any circumstances, nor will any sexual content whatsoever. It is non-negotiable.
  005.   There’s going to be violence, dark themes, mentions of trauma and abuse, grief, mentions of bodily harm, death, and it will be delving into subjects of war and conflict, slavery, and the dark underbelly of societal hierarchies and their inherently flawed nature when it comes to determining one’s treatment and supposed “worth” in life. I’ll try to tag the more graphically intense subjects especially, but if there’s anything specific that you want/need tagged, please drop me a message and it’ll be done. Oh, and there’ll probably be sexual content every now and again, but y'know.  006.   Given the nature of XVI’s story, particularly with regards to the nations’ relations and politics and conflicts, there are bound to be subjects, decisions, opinions, etc. that I neither agree with nor condone. Please bear in mind that this is fiction, and it is not a reflection of my personal views.  007.   I’m really socially awkward and bad at keeping up with writing, probably because I’m struggling with A Lot Of Dumb Stuff IRL that we won't get into. But I promise that if I’m Following you, I do want to interact with you, and I love seeing you on my Dashboard!

DO'S

  • You don't have to be buddy-buddy with me; just be respectful, and I'll be respectful in return!

  • Tell me about your muse(s), headcanons, ideas, everything! I love learning more about others' blorbos and their world.

  • Let me know if there's any specific ideas/plots you'd like to explore. More often than not, I'll be down for it, or at least to give it a shot!

  • Please be straightforward with me. I'm not here to be jerked around.

  • That being said, whatever problems you have with others, please leave me out of it and bring it up to the person you have issues with instead. You can lightly vent if you need to, but I'm just here to roleplay and have fun like everyone else.

  • Be patient, especially when it comes to roleplay replies. I have too much going on, and writing takes a back seat(in part due to frequent writer's block). The same applies to you -- take as long as you'd like/need! Even if it takes you a year to reply to our thread, I'll be just as excited.

  • Respect my boundaries as I'll respect yours -- just make them clear to me!

  • Be open about what it is that you want as a writing partner. I can't guarantee that we'll be on the same page, but we can usually work something out. This is a collaborative hobby, after all!

  • Utilize your Unfollow and block buttons. I'll be doing the same, when the situation calls for it!

  • If you have a problem with me that you feel strongly enough to bring up, then please bring it up to me personally. Otherwise, I'd rather we part ways.

DO NOT'S

  • Godmod or take control of my character.

  • Insult me or my intelligence to my face when we disagree. It's rude, and I will insta-block.

  • Force your headcanons and ships on me. I'll avoid doing the same to you. I'd rather we collaborate on a story, not follow a preset script.

  • Force your expectations for writing together onto me without my consent, or get angry when I'm not comfortable with fulfilling your request.

  • Take it personally if we disagree on something. As far as I'm concerned, having differing opinions on characters and stories is a great thing and should be embraced, not treated as an insult to you and yours(or mine).

  • Take it personally if I disengage from you. If you'd like an explanation as to why, you're always, always free to ask. I don't usually block people on Discord, and my DMs on Tumblr are always open to anyone.

  • If you're under 18, please don't lie about your age. If I find out you've done so, you'll be insta-blocked.

  • I don't care what you do on your blog; out of respect, please don't try to dictate or demand what I do on mine.

The Merciful Soldier

Elwin Rosfield was the acting Archduke of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria.   Though he, like Clive, did not awaken as Phoenix’s Dominant, in Elwin’s case it was due to having been born while his father – the previous Dominant of the Eikon of Fire – was still alive. He nonetheless took the throne due to his father’s untimely passing and his mother’s abdication of the position of Archduchess. As tradition dictates, the one who awakens as the Dominant of the Phoenix is to take the throne, and so Elwin was holding it just until Joshua comes of age to rule. Unlike his wife, Anabella, he cared for both of his sons, and did not view Clive as a failure for not awakening as the Dominant of Phoenix – but instead saw him as a skilled soldier and worthy of the position of First Shield of Rosaria’s army, and Joshua’s guardian.
While Elwin did not become the Dominant of Phoenix, he made up for this by honing his swordsmanship and magic capabilities from his father’s blessing rather than just focusing on statesmanship, so that he could be a leader on the front lines of battle instead of ruling only from the throne.
He was loved by his sons and his people, and in turn treated everyone with respect, fairness, and fondness.
Despite tradition dictating that Joshua be taken to Phoenix Gate to commune with House Rosfield’s ancestors in order to aid the Duchy of Rosaria in the impending invasion on the Iron Kingdom, Elwin was conflicted between duty and the love of a father. But he ultimately chose duty and tradition in order to protect the nation, regardless of Joshua’s young age.
During the surprise assault at Phoenix Gate, the Archduke was beheaded by traitors to Rosaria while attempting to help Joshua escape. The sight of this traumatic scene, and the weight of Clive’s last words to him – that Joshua must protect their father – caused Joshua to be overtaken by Phoenix, though he had no immediate control over the Eikon’s power, and all hell broke loose at the fortress. The resulting ending was the formerly unknown second Eikon of Fire, Ifrit, battling against Phoenix, with the prior coming out victorious. So how did Elwin manage to survive a beheading? Well, he didn’t. Tied to his sword’s scabbard were two Phoenix feathers, gifts bestowed upon him by his father before the man’s passing. Unbeknownst to him, the power within these two mementos resurrected him, a process which is explained in this post – though if you’re not keen on body horror and gore, you may want to shy away from reading it.It was Joshua’s subconscious desire to protect Elwin that kept the man from being incinerated by the flames. Come morning, his unconscious body was found by Imperial soldiers who were combing through the wreckage; he was buried beneath rubble and ash, but was nonetheless alive, if only barely. There was debate over what to do with him. He was, after all, meant to be dead – that was one of the intended purposes of this assault. However, a better solution was settled upon, since this unexpected opportunity had presented itself. And thus Elwin was taken to Sanbreque, where he was stripped of everything and imprisoned until he finally awoke – after which point he was Branded and forced into a new life as a Bearer. He took up a new identity, choosing for himself the name “Miles”, and subsequently choosing to let Elwin Rosfield die.It goes without saying that Elwin didn’t survive The Night of Flames unmarred. There is the rather nasty scar that circles around his neck, which acts as his constant reminder that what took place that night did, indeed, happen. In contrast, the only burns he has on his body are some on his back, that suspiciously happen to resemble scattered feathers…Due to the nature of his fatal injury, his vocal chords were also damaged, something that was only somewhat repaired by the healing done by the Phoenix’s power. He was still able to speak, however it was not only a struggle, it was also painful at times, and his voice was raspy and strained, if not altogether weak. Suffice it to say that it took several years of earnest work for him to reach a point where he could speak clearly again – and even then, his voice is certainly not the same as it was before The Night of Flames, adding yet another reason to doubt his true identity. He also suffers from nigh constant nightmares. Although he was only vaguely conscious at best of what was going on around him at Phoenix Gate, some sounds and images did imprint upon his subconscious. These sounds and visions permeate into his dreams, forcing upon him glimpses of blurred scenes and obscure forms and figures, none of which he has context for or an understanding of. As distressing as that in and of itself is for him, the most prominent aspect of these nightmares is the memory of the fire that had engulfed everything, which is so vivid to him that he can feel the searing heat from it upon his skin.

  From The Fire        Main.
In this verse, “Miles” is thrown around from owner to owner in Sanbreque before eventually finding himself liberated by Cursebreakers and taken to Hideaway.
There, he comes to learn more and more about the people living in Hideaway, how it functions, and about The Outlaw Cid’s dream for their world. The plan resonates with him, and so he resolves to help – undergoing the surgery to have his Brand removed, then joining the ranks of the Cursebreakers. This verse is incredibly flexible, with the details, especially timeline, able to vary based on thread/plot/etc.

  Embers and Ashes       Alt.
Where this verse diverges from the From The Fire verse is that “Miles” is specifically made into a Bearer of the Imperial Palace first in Sanbreque’s capitol of Oriflamme, then later in The Crystalline Dominion’s capitol of Twinside. Because of this, he is never liberated by the Cursebreakers, and instead remains a Bearer until the destruction of Twinside, where he manages to escape from the palace amidst the ensuing chaos.
What happens to him and where he goes after that is also incredibly flexible according to individual plot!

  Bastion of Tradition       "Canon" Timeline.
This verse takes place before the attack at Phoenix Gate, and spans the length of time from when he takes the throne up ‘til The Night of Flames.
By default, the timeline of events that take place during his reign follow the general timeline established by canon. That being said, I am all for AUs! And in general if you have an idea you’d like to explore, whether it be canon-based or canon-divergent or altogether an AU, please don’t be shy to approach about it!

  Firebird's Song       "Canon Timeline".
This verse takes place at any point before Elwin takes the throne as Archduke.
The timeline of this verse is an amalgamation of headcanons and sprinkles of the Ultimania's timeline of Elwin’s life.Elwin is, of course, arranged to be wed, even long before who he is betrothed to has been decided. However, this does not by any means that this verse isn’t available for shipping pre-officialized engagement and for pre-established relationships as well! Everything is flexible!

  Enkindled Hearts       "AU".
This verse is a general verse for any AU where Elwin marries someone other than Anabella, for any reason/circumstances, or AUs where The Night of Flames doesn’t happen. Or, y'know, if his marriage somehow doesn't end up being absolute shit.
The smallest change in course can have the largest impact on unfolding events. This verse explores these types of possibilities and more!

  A Flame Reborn       "AU".
This is basically Elwin’s Dominant AU verse. The gist of what you need to know is that Maduin is a non-aspected Eikon that sympathizes so strongly with Elwin’s yearning to see his family one last time, that he “revives” Elwin and grants him his power so that he can do so – under the agreement that Elwin will aid in the efforts to save Valisthea and her people.
Elwin in this verse is not alive, exactly. His “body” is sustained by Maduin’s power, and once magic disappears from the realm, so will he.Like all of my verses, the details of this are always flexible and able to be altered! The only permanent detail is that Elwin is tied to the Eikon Maduin in some capacity. This verse also doubles as a verse for the Eikon Maduin himself, or a representation of him -- which is connected to @pyrelight's Ifrit.

  Flames of Rebellion       "AU".
This verse is an umbrella verse for any interactions that take place post-Phoenix Gate that don’t involve Elwin being taken prisoner and consigned to life as a Bearer. Bonus points if they do veer into the idea of rebellion.
This follows the same concept of Elwin being resurrected at Phoenix Gate by the Phoenix feathers from his father. For any flexible reason, Elwin was able to escape and retreat to Eastpool, where Hanna hid him and nursed him back to health. With Eastpool as the base of operations, the two plan to discreetly seek out and ally with other resistance fighters and factions, that they might one day rise up, united with their fellow Rosarians, to take back their home once and for all.Like with the details of the Dominant AU, any or all details can be changed – the only thing that’s a constant is that Elwin isn’t taken prisoner after Phoenix Gate.

  FFVI AU       "AU".
I’ll elaborate on this one later, too! Just know that it involves the Gestahlian Empire being the Gestahlian Empire, Elwin accidentally leading to his nation’s total destruction and the slaughter of his people by speaking out in favor of not bending the knee to the Empire, and there is much guilt and anger that needs to heal.

  FFVII AU       "AU".
Elwin Rosfield has ever been an idealist.
Originally hailing from Junon, he built a career in politics as an advisor. With rumors on the rise of Shinra’s stirring interest in the fishing hub, he took it as an opportunity to try and bridge the gap between them, that they might work together for the betterment of all. He moved to Midgar and joined the company formally, where he proceeded to take a role as a public relations advisor and representative. As we all know, this was a foolish ambition on his part. Shinra has no interest in friendships and alliances; their goal was and always would be conquest and domination, and Elwin realized this far too late – not as if he could have stopped everything that went on to happen, anyway. But if nothing else, he could have stood with his home and friends in the fight against the tyrannical corporation, no matter how pointless it was.Instead, wracked with guilt and shame at his idealistic folly, Elwin settles for fighting back not with weapons, but in the manner of his expertise: advising and fostering relations. He aims to help those oppressed by Shinra by manipulating strings for leniency and resources for them, subtly misadvises in order to aid in sabotaging retaliatory efforts against them, slips tidbits of insider information to those who can use it behind the company’s back and under the guise of fulfilling his occupational duties, all while maintaining a friendly smile. His loyalty is, as it always has been, to the people – not to Shinra, never to Shinra. And so it is for the people that he works, no matter the potential cost to himself.

  FFXIV AU       "AU".
Elwin is the firstborn child of a prominent and wealthy Ul'dahn family with direct connections to The Syndicate. As he grew older, he began to grow more and more bitter and furious over the wealth disparity within the city-state, the political corruption and rampant abuse of power, and the poor treatment of the Ala-Mhigan refugees.
Realizing that he was ultimately powerless to change these issues, the man instead chose to leave Ul'dah and his old life behind, and set off on a personal journey across Etheirys with the intention to help everyone that he could along the way. From the sands of Dalmasca, to the snows of Garlemald; from the markets of Kugane, to the trading emporiums of Thavnair, and the merchant’s stalls in the Azim Steppe’s Reunion, and everywhere in-between – Elwin has been to more places than he can count. Each destination brings with it new meetings, new cultures, new histories, and in some cases, new conflicts or wars. But he never shies away, never turns his back where he can lend aid. It’s implied that he either is, or was married, though this is never elaborated on. What is known, however, is that he has two sons, both of whom he loves dearly despite his departure out into the world. Every chance he gets, he sends letters to them, as well as parcels containing either gifts that he has obtained from his most recent stop, or something that he himself has crafted for them – which is usually jewelry. In an effort to be self-sufficient, Elwin is a man of many talents, taking up as many trades as he can. Needless to say, he both gathers and crafts, and his proficiency in crafting is goldsmithing.Of all the places that he has ever visited, the one that he always returns to in the end is Mor Dhona. For him, it serves as a sort of “base of operations” for everything that he does, in addition to it feeling like “home” to him. If ever you need to find him for any reason, all you have to do is wait in Mor Dhona, and he will inevitably show up.

  Modern AU       "AU".
Elwin is the CEO of a successful corporation. He’s loved by the community, he’s devoted to his causes, he’s compassionate to all people from all walks of life. He puts a large bulk of his profits into humanitarian aid, campaigns for equal rights for all, and philanthropic endeavors to provide housing, shelters, food, medical treatment, and more to those in need. He even opens his home to anyone who needs a place to stay until they can get back on their feet, including while he is away on business trips – with his only rule being very vague and admittedly confusing, and is never elaborated on: Don’t set anything on fire.
Outwardly he is charming and charismatic, confident in everything that he says and does, and has an unshakeable resolve when it comes to what he perceives as “just” and “fair”(which isn’t always a good thing, truthfully). In short, if he were a D&D character, he would be the stereotypical Paladin.Inwardly, on the other hand, are countless cracks running through the facade of this perfect life of his, threatening to shatter the illusion with one wrong move.
